Tuesday’s PET scanner announcement in Sudbury was missing a key person. France Gelinas, the MPP for Nickel Belt, lobbied for the cancer-detecting equipment for eight years. Health minister Eric Hoskins only mentioned Gelinas’ role when pressed by media questions. The PET scanner will serve all of Northeastern Ontario. However residents still have to raise the money to buy the scanner before the province kicks in $1.6 million in annual operating costs.
