Mantha awards mall collapse responders

Several Elliot Lake firefighters and OPP officers have received awards of recognition for their role in the roof top collapse of the Algo Centre Mall.  In naming each emergency responder, riding MPP Mike Mantha said the   recognition was a long time coming following the June, 2012 collapse.  Despite the delay, Mantha says it doesn’t diminish their effort.

During the presentation Mantha said it was an honour for him and others to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with this group and doing what needed to be done to ensure that some of our own were cared for as quickly as possible.  Mantha add these are ordinary people but they’re there for everyone.  The collapse killed two women, resulted in one person being charged and numerous recommendations on avoiding future building collapses.
