Former Espanola man charged with rare offense

Alberta police have charged a former Espanola man with a rare offense under the Criminal Code.  The man is charged with child sex tourism after he went to Ireland twice in 2013 and had sex with a young teenage girl.  The teen was 13 when she met the 33-year-old man online.  When Irish police became aware of the incident, they called the RCMP.

Canadian police agencies began their investigation last year but had a hard time tracking the accused because he had no record and wasn’t known to them.  The former resident was traced to Fort McMurray, Alberta.  In addition to the rare offense, the man is charged with two counts of sexual interference and luring.
