OPP’s Boyd to retire

Some history comes to an end in just a few weeks on Manitoulin.  Constable Al Boyd is retiring from the OPP after nearly 35 years of service.  The remarkable thing about Boyd’s policing career is it was all with Manitoulin at the Little Current detachment.  When he was posted in Little Current in 1981 after his OPP training, he figured he’d transfer out after two years.

What happened instead was over the next three decades, Boyd and his wife Judy ended up raising a family on the Island.  Boyd has worked many positions over the years including a lengthy stint as the detachment’s Community Services Officer.  Boyd says he’ll miss his colleagues but he’s not going far because he and Judy are staying on Manitoulin and he plans to do a lot of volunteering.
