An Elliot Lake company closed its doors and relocated to Sudbury on Thursday.
Komatsu Public Relations Manager Mason Raube says they permanently closed their Elliot Lake mining-related operation, which is affecting 45 employees, with some given the option of relocating to their Sudbury location, but most getting pink slips.
Raube adds Komatsu is aligning and strengthening its underground hard rock business by centralizing manufacturing and service operations at its Sudbury facilities.
The company added the Elliot Lake operation back in 2019 through its acquisition of Timberock International Limited.
He did not comment on what will happen to the company holdings and property in Elliot Lake.
