The Manitoulin – Sudbury District Services Board has agreed to the leasing of a new lifesaving tool for their ambulances and paramedic teams as part of the 2026 budget.
According to the latest report presented to the board, there has been a recent migration toward the deployment of CPR assistive devices in Paramedic Services.
Last year, the local board approved the purchase of three of the devices to test them out with staff stating the trial went extremely well, so the recommendation was put forward to the board to outfit the local contingent with them.
The board has agreed to a five-year lease with Stryker for 13 Lucas -Three devices, which will allow for the placement of a device on all their deployed vehicles, and one spare.
The lease is for five years at $15,000 per unit and is to be included in the 2026 budget.
Manitoulin-Sudbury DSB is responsible for the provision of paramedic services across 45,000 square kilometers of Manitoulin and Sudbury Districts.
Paramedic Services deploys from 12 paramedic service station locations.
There are four community hospitals within the districts, meaning that eight paramedic resources must transport their patient(s) significant distances out of their deployed community.
In 2024, Paramedic Services responded to more than 11,000 urgent and emergent calls for service, including 47 sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) calls.
