Former Blind River Mayor Robert V. Gallagher passes away

Long-time former mayor of Blind River, Robert (Bob) Gallagher has passed away after a lengthy illness.
A well-known teacher and politician, he taught for many years at W. C. Eaket School and dedicated 31 of his years as a local politician including 25 as their long-time mayor.
Gallagher oversaw many projects in the Blind River area including arena upgrades, the building of a new high school and the construction of the East Algoma OPP detachment during his tenure as mayor.
In his retirement years, he loved the great outdoors and travelling but was hindered by illness over the last six years.
Gallagher’s funeral will be held this Saturday, November 1st at 2 pm at St. James the Greater Catholic Church.
He was 86.
