Petition underway on Manitoulin Island to keep Beer Store open

A petition is underway across Manitoulin Island for the Ontario government to cancel the closure of the Island’s one and only Beer Store.
The government announced earlier this week, the closure of a dozen Beer Stores including the local agency in Little Current.
According to the release, the Beer Store is to close its doors on October 19th with the only option for imbibers to travel to Espanola or shop at the LCBO, corner stores and grocery stores.
The petition, which is already receiving wide-spread support, states that the closure will have a disastrous effect on local organizations, such as the Lions Clubs, tourist events, Legions and other organizations.
The petition has already received well over 600 signatures.
