Shuffleboard anyone?
Espanola Mayor and Council met with Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Bill Rosenberg yesterday for the announcement of two grants geared to inclusivity and seniors.
Rosenberg presented certificates acknowledging a $34,380 Inclusive Community Grant and a Seniors Community Grant for $18, 820.
The announcements took place at Algoma Park where attendees could take in the improvements covered by the grants, which included a new shade area, shuffleboard, seating, a Little Free Library and a public information board.
The park also includes a community garden and floral boxes, thanks to the work of the Espanola Gardeners.
Espanola Mayor Doug Gervais thanked Rosenberg for the funding and support for seniors and inclusivity-geared amenities to the town.
Now those amenities in place, the town will now look at replacing major park structures for youngsters, and recreation will focus on programming aimed at fostering social connections for local seniors.
The improvements also meet goals set out in Espanola’s Strategic Plan.
