Last opportunity to vocalize opposition to tailing transfer

Nairn & Hyman Township is hosting another open house to provide the public with the latest updates about the disposal of tailings at Agnew Lake.
CAO clerk treasurer, Belinda Ketchabaw, says the meeting will focus on updates about the proposed transportation and disposal of radioactive niobium and uranium tailings, along with other heavy materials from Nipissing First Nation to the Agnew Lake Tailings Management Area located within the township.
She adds they will also be reviewing Ministry responses to questions posed at last September’s public meeting, next steps recommended by environmental consultants, as well as providing the community the opportunity to voice their concerns.
Ketchabaw says the public meeting may be the last opportunity to discuss the plan as trucking is slated to begin this August.
The meeting is set for July 14th at 6 pm at the Nairn Community Centre.
