Around a dozen volunteers with North Shore Anglers and Hunters Conservation Association were hard at work this past weekend.
Association secretary Karen Stanlake says they emptied their first pond of some 40,000 fingerlings into local area lakes.
She says according to ministry of natural resources statistics the fingerlings have around a 35% survival rate.
Stanlake explains it takes hours of dedication to drain the pond, cut the grass, net the fingerlings, transport them to the lakes, and more.
She says the work will continue over the next few weeks including monitoring of the fish, adding volunteers are more than welcome to join the association and help with conservation efforts throughout the year.
