Guinness in Espanola and Elliot Lake for world record

Loblaw outlets in Espanola and Elliot Lake joined their peers across Canada this weekend to break a Guinness World Record.
On Saturday, June 14th at exactly 12 noon Parmigiano Reggiano joined Loblaw Companies to achieve a new record for the most Parmigiano Reggiano wheels cracked simultaneously (multiple venues).
With over 450 Loblaw stores participating, the event showcased the traditional way of cracking a wheel of the famous cheese and the culture behind Italy’s “King of Cheese” during Italian Heritage Month.
The world record is 1,209, achieved by Loblaw in March 2014 and this attempt was to crack more than 1,800 wheels and break their own record.
The official announcement is expected soon as the results tabulated by Guinness.
Attendees also had the chance to sample the cheese and learn why Parmigiano Reggiano is a Protected Designation of Origin certified product.
