Espanola and Elliot Lake name their Seniors of the Year

Espanola Mayor Doug Gervais and the council will present its inaugural 2025 Senior of the Year Award this evening to Vista Radio’s own Rosalind Russell.
Russell was selected from seven nominations by a committee made up of members from the community acknowledging her volunteerism through her initiatives including the Wrapped in Warmth Campaign, Heart of Gold Campaign for children with cancer, annual Drug Walk and her ongoing assistance in promoting and supporting numerous organizations in Espanola on the Moose 99.3 FM CJJM – Espanola.
Russell is also a longtime contributor to Around & About in Espanola and a past managing editor of the Mid-North Monitor having provided news to the local area for the last 45 years.
She has also advocated for the Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer through her pageantry work, as well as advocating for women’s empowerment, having won the national 2024 Ms. Elite Regional Canada title.
The presentation takes place at 7 pm in the council chambers.
Elliot Lake Mayor Andrew Wannan presented this year’s accolade to John Ricard at last night’s council meeting.
Wannan says Ricard has dedicated countless hours to the community through his volunteerism, including his work with the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank, offering home repairs to those in need, driving seniors to medical appointments or shoveling driveways.
