Canada Post’s latest proposal, strike mandate set and release of IIC Report

Canada Post has presented its latest contract offer in labour negotiations with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, less than a week after the union received a strike mandate from workers.
According to the release, in a bid to reach a new deal without a labour disruption, the latest proposal includes annual wage increases amounting to 11.5 per cent over four years.
It also protects the defined-benefit pension for current employees, as well as their job security and health benefits.
Canada Post has received strike notices from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, for both Urban and the Rural and Suburban Mail Carriers bargaining units.
The notices indicate that CUPW intends to begin strike activity on Friday, May 23rd at 12:00 am local time.
Still with the story, Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have received the final report from the Industrial Inquiry Commission.
The report provides an assessment of the challenges facing the postal system and offers a series of recommendations for a sustainable path forward for the company.
One of the recommendations is that Canada Post should phase out daily delivery to residential addresses, while maintaining it for businesses.
