Para-swimmer off to the Canadian Games

Elliot Lake’s former para-swimmer, Alyssa Hébert, is still making waves having been selected to represent Team Alberta at the Canada Games.
Her mother Sarah says her daughter will be competing in several events (50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m individual medley, 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle) at the games set for St. John’, Newfoundland August 8th to 25th.
She says they still consider Elliot Lake home, but moved to Alberta for Alyssa to continue her goal to one day make it on the Canadian Paralympic team and to access more services for her.
Sarah says her daughter qualified at the Ken Demchuck International Invitation.
Alyssa dropped10 seconds in her 200m freestyle in prelims and an additional 10 seconds in finals.
Currently, she swims for Airdrie Phoenix Swim Club.
She is coached by the club’s Head Coach, Shane Esau and Sarah.
The nominations were confirmed April 23, by Swim Alberta’s selection list.
Alyssa was the top scoring performer of individual events in the Paralympic Program.
As she was the top scoring performer, her Head Coach, Shane was selected as the team’s para swim coach.
