Elliot Lake Food Bank has a new home … with challenges

The move is complete for the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank but there are some challenges with the new location.

The new facility is now located at 23 Timber Road, but some essential renovations are needed so a new campaign is underway to raise $50,000 according to food bank vice-chair and head of fundraising, Terry Aitcheson.

The funds raised will be allocated towards upgrading both the front and rear of the facility.

He says the most crucial renovation is to improve the accessibility to the front door, and to the washrooms as required by law.

He adds they are closing off a door and window at the front of the building to properly serve clients and increase security.

Aitcheson says they also have to resurface the parking area.

He emphasizes, they hope to raise the funds within the next five to six months to have the renovations completed by early fall.

In all, he adds, they have about $300,000 in renovations to complete, but have applied for grant funding.
