  • Manitoulin Island

When: This morning through early Monday morning. Additional information: Several hours of snow or ice pellets are possible before precipitation changes to freezing rain. Once the precipitation changes to freezing rain, a prolonged period of it is expected. For some areas, this has the potential to be a major ice storm. Freezing rain may change over to rain late this afternoon or evening for locations near the North Channel and the city of North Bay as temperatures briefly rise above the freezing mark. Precipitation will transition to ice pellets and then snow from west to east Monday morning. Easterly winds will become northerly on Monday morning with gusts up to 50 km/h. This may exacerbate the situation if there is ice build-up on tree limbs and power lines. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and extremely hazardous. Extended and widespread utility outages are possible. Beware of branches or electrical wires that could break under the weight of ice.

Precipitation will transition to ice pellets and then snow from west to east late tonight into Monday morning. Conditions will improve Monday morning as the weather system exits the province. Surfaces like highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Ice build-up may cause tree branches to break. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.
