New riding boundaries in 2025 means a new riding and candidates for some former AMK voters

The 2022 Canadian federal electoral redistribution has divided Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing splitting municipalities along geographical lines.
The former Sault Ste. Marie riding has been expanded to include much of rural Algoma District, and is renamed Sault Ste. Marie—Algoma.
Elliot Lake, Blind River, Bruce Mines, Spanish, Thessalon, Huron Shores and others are now part of the new riding.
That means voters have new candidates to consider when the federal election is called, which is expected to happen soon.
The incumbent, Liberal Terry Sheehan presently serves as the Member of Parliament for Sault Ste. Marie.
He was first elected in the 2015 federal election.
The NDP candidate is Laura Mayer from Mississauga First Nation who is serving her second term as a councillor for the First Nation and currently serves as the Executive Director of the National Council of Indigenous Midwives.
Arnold Heino from Sault Ste. Marie has a long history in health care and is running for the People’s Party of Canada.
The Progressive Conservatives local association is expected to announce their candidate this weekend.
Former Elliot Mayor and business owner Chris Patrie is on the shortlist being considered for the position.
