St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake’s Pharmacy and Oncology Renovation Project nearly complete

It’s been two months since construction began on the much-anticipated renovation project at St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake with the expansion of the Pharmacy Department.
Don Gelinas, Manager of Facilities & Maintenance, has been overseeing the construction phase adding he has been working closely with the architect, mechanical engineers, pharmacy team, and other internal stakeholders to develop the design.
He says his focus is now on overseeing the construction phase to ensure the state-of-the-art facility will feature specialized compounding pharmacy capabilities, allowing us to continue delivering critical oncology services to our patients.
Officials say the sterile compounding rooms are set to provide a safer, more controlled environment for preparing critical medications like chemotherapy, IV treatments, and other injectable therapies.
Deborah Dubois, the chair of the hospital board, adds donations for the Pharmacy and Oncology expansion project have surpassed the initial goal of $750,000 and now total $815,000.
She thanks the wider community for their support of the project and looks forward to the grand opening of the department.
