Transfer of former MNR Worksite to Serpent River First Nation

Elliot Lake council will be discussing the transfer of a former Ministry of Natural Resources site to the Serpent River Nation.
City Economic Development Manager, Steve Antunes, says in July of 2022, the previous council passed a resolution that 4.29 acres of municipal land on Highway 108 be sold for a nominal value or transferred to Serpent River in the interests of reconciliation, economic and community development and socio-cultural service delivery.
He says staff was directed to prepare the necessary bylaw to transfer the property adding work has been carried out over the last two years with an Agreement of Purchase and Sale prepared to sell the property to Serpent River First Nation Land Holding Inc.
Antunes says the holding company will then process the transfer of the property to Serpent River First Nation.
Council is expected to pass the bylaw to complete the transaction this evening.
