Multi-million-dollar donation to the Elliot Lake arena, renaming to acknowledge donation

The City of Elliot Lake has announced a $3-million donation from Edward and Suzanne Rogers today for the Centennial Arena restoration.
Mayor Andrew Wannan says they are grateful to the Rogers for the donation with the funds going towards structural repairs and upgrading of the arena.
Suzanne Rogers says she was born in the city and resided there until her father’s passing in a mining accident, so her ties to the city are strong.
Wannan adds in recognition of the donation, the City of Elliot Lake will be entering into a 25-year agreement to rename the facility as the Rogers Arena.
He says the donation impacts every taxpayer since the city will not need to raise the funds through taxation for some of the repair work.
Wannan says the council will be reviewing the agreement at its council meeting on Monday.
