Arrests made in connection to vandalism at Centennial Arena

Two seventeen-year-olds are facing charges after police responded to a break-in at the Centennial Arena last week.

On Friday Morning the OPP says officers were called to the arena when contractors noticed extensive damage inside. A zoom-boom was still running, which had smashed into a large structural post. Large commercial fire extinguishers were also deployed, and all the food in the canteen’s cupboards and refrigerator was damaged and then thrown on the floor. The estimated cost of the damages is over $50,000. The OPP says they were able to obtain footage from security cameras.

Both 17-year-olds, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have been charged with break and enter and mischief. The accused had a November court appearance in Elliot Lake.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and more information will be provided when available.
