History Day in Kagawong offers to unique presentations

The annual History Day in Kagawong is a double feature this year with the theme being Tragedy and Triumph on Lake Huron.

Curator of the Old Mill Heritage Centre, Rick Nelson, says it takes place Thursday, August 8th and includes the history of ferry service on Manitoulin Island, to mark the Chi-Cheemaun’s 50th anniversary and the second presentation, the tragic loss of a family in the North Channel back in 1965.

He adds Richard Thomas of Owen Sound has written a book about the Chi Cheemaun while journalist Mike Strobel of the Toronto Sun has researched the story about the loss of the people on the Rhu. –

Nelson says the event has a matinee at 3:30 pm and an evening presentation at 7:30 pm with free admission to both.
