East Algoma OPP lays multiple charges related to an attempted theft

East Algoma OPP has laid multiple charges against an Elliot Lake man following an attempted theft.

Constable Bev Gauthier says last Friday around 7 pm, a Kilborn Way businessman and a friend arrived at his business and observed an ATV with two people on board carrying an air conditioning unit.

She says the business owner attempted to stop them, but one of the riders assaulted his friend and damaged a mirror on their pickup.

After reviewing the business video footage police found the suspect ATV at a residence on Chalmers Crescent.

The suspect ATV driver was arrested and the vehicle impounded for 45 days.

A 51-year-old man from Elliot Lake was charged with theft under $5,000, resisting a police officer, failure to comply, two counts of driving while under suspension and illegally driving with a passenger on the ATV.

He is to appear in Elliot Lake Court on August 15th
