The re-elected MP for Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing is sending a big thank you to voters in the riding. Carol Hughes says she’s grateful that people returned her to office. But Hughes is also congratulating voters for coming out in big numbers regardless of who they voted for. She says this shows they were engaged in the political process and reverses a trend of lower voter turnout from past elections. In the 2011 federal election, 50 percent of eligible voters in AMK cast ballots and this past Monday the number jumped to 66 percent.
