Human skeletal remains found in Chelmsford

Police are hoping the public can help them identify some human skeletal remains found in Chelmsford on Sunday.

Detective Staff Sergeant Barry Ornella with the Criminal Investigations Division says around 5:30 pm on Sunday, officers were dispatched after a community member found human remains in a remote wooded area just of west of Marion Street in Chelmsford.

He says over the next few days, there will be an increased police presence in the general area while the scene is being examined and officers conduct a ground search.

Ornella adds the identity of the deceased, the length of time the remains have been in the wooded area and the circumstances of the death have yet to be determined, so various services will be doing what they can to determine the identity of the remains.

He says they are asking the public to stay away, and if anyone has any information they believe could be connected to the investigation to call their local police service or Crime Stoppers.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact police at 705-675-9171 or Crime Stoppers at 705-222-8477.
