Manitoulin high school students carry out mock federal election

High school students at Manitoulin Secondary got a democracy lesson this week.  Following Monday’s federal election, the students also voted for the candidates who ran in Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing.  They elected Carol Hughes, the NDP candidate with 46 percent support.  In the real election, Hughes also won.  The students next chose Liberal Heather Wilson with 28 percent student support and on Monday Wilson also finished second.  And just like Monday’s real outcome, the Tory candidate was third but with less student support than he got from real voters and the Green Party candidate was fourth with more support from students than from adults.
