OPP charge youth with multiple offences

One youth from south of Espanola has been arrested and charged for multiple offences by Manitoulin OPP.

Constable Jessica Gilbertson says shortly after 1 am yesterday morning, police were on patrol in Sables-Spanish Rivers Township and spotted a motor vehicle being driven in an erratic manner.

She says the driver fled police but was found in a ditch on Sims Street in Webbwood.

Gilbertson says police determined the 14-year-old from Curtin Township, south of Espanola, had consumed alcohol and took the vehicle without consent.

She adds the youth has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police and others.

The youth is to appear in Espanola court at a later date.

The charges are as follows:

Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Dangerous operation

Flight from peace officer

Take motor vehicle without consent

Drive motor vehicle – no licence

The OPP will not be releasing the name of the accused under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).
