Preparing for the Solar Eclipse along the North Shore

April 8th is a day off from school for children due to the solar eclipse and a local area observatory is preparing the public for the event.

David Doherty and Carolyn Wood, owners of Dortwood Observatory in Webbwood, say they will be hosting two information sessions for the public on solar eclipses and how to safely watch the event.

Doherty says the first will be held March 11th at the Webbwood Library, the second the next afternoon at the Massey Library, both starting at 1 pm.

He says the Learning about Eclipses demonstrations will assist the public in making proper solar viewing face plates as well as solar box viewers, adding solar glasses are only available through purchase at the libraries or at The Vintage Source in the Espanola Mall.

Doherty says the main event on April 8 has a 1:45 pm start and will be at the Massey Library from where they will livestream it while the Webbwood branch will have a volunteer or two streaming outdoors with glasses and boxes.
