New committee proposing expanded Community Days

A group of community-minded Blind River volunteers have formed a committee proposing an expansion of Community Days set for July 11th to 13th.

Committee spokespersons Nathalie Dubois and Sommer Francoeur met with council this week to provide an overview for fundraising, tentative schedules, locations and more.

Dubois says the committee’s goal is to revive the town’s community celebration with a strategy put in place to allow for long-term sustainability.

Francoeur noted the municipality traditionally sponsored the event held at several municipally owned locations with council agreeing that can be a viable option.

Council also asked municipal treasurer Sue Dent to prepare a report on funding and ways the municipality could work with the committee to provide supports for the next meeting in early March.

The event was seriously curtailed following the pandemic due to a lack of volunteers, but the committee has revived hopes that a full three-days of celebration can be revived.
