Community Living asking community to Sign #5ToSurvive petition

Community Living organizations are petitioning the provincial government for more funding for people with developmental disabilities including Espanola and Algoma.

The two are joining their peers in asking people to sign the #5toSurvive petition to increase developmental disability funding so their clients can keep up with the accelerating cost of living.

John Policicchio, the Executive Director of Community Living Algoma says they see the need for more funding for food, accommodation and more, and are calling on the government to provide an immediate 5% increase to developmental services agency core funding in addition to a corresponding 5% increase in Passport Funding and Special Services at Home.

He adds the passport funding pays for community participation services and supports, activities of daily living, caregiver respite services and supports for primary caregivers.

The call is being shared by all Community Living organizations across the province representing over 100,000 people supported through their programs.

Currently, CLA provides support to over 900 people across Algoma and employs 344 employees.
