Sudbury councillor found deceased

Sudbury councillor, 62-year-old Michael Vagnini has been found dead.

That’s according to the Greater Sudbury Police Service, who says shortly before 2:30 p.m. yesterday (Feb. 13), officers were dispatched to the area of Reserve Camp Road on Atikiamekshing Anishnawbek First Nation after the OPP contacted the city police with the location of a black 2021 Ram 1500 truck with the license plate matching the one that the Sudbury councillor was last seen driving on January 27th.

They add he was found a short distance from the vehicle.

Officials say detectives are in the preliminary stages of the death investigation and currently foul play is not suspected.

Detectives are working in collaboration with the OPP and the Coroner’s Office and a postmortem will be conducted through the Coroner’s Office to assist in determining the cause of death.

Police thank everyone who assisted in the search, adding the outpouring of support from the community has been unparalleled since he was first reported missing.
