Trustees of the Algoma District School Board have approved a new name for their new JK to grade 12 school that is to be built in Blind River this year.
Trustee Debbie Shamas, who represents Blind River, says the school will be called Three Rivers.
Shamas says it was chosen because it includes the Mississauga River, Blind River, and Serpent River, the three languages of English, French, and Ojibway, and the three communities of Iron Bridge, Blind River, and Serpent River that the school will serve.
The $50.5-million school is a shared spaced with Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord and will be built at 158 Youngfox Road in Blind River.
The Conseil Scolaire du Grand Nord school will be named École publique des Pins Blanc.
The schools will be housed jointly in one building but will each enjoy their own unique identities.
Construction begins this Spring with an anticipated opening in the fall of 2025.
