Espanola organizations partner to gift seniors

Being a Santa to Seniors is a campaign that involves several partners throughout the Espanola area.

Volunteer Kareena Beavis says organizations such as the VON, long-term care, the Helping Hand Food Bank, and others provide names of seniors who access their services.

She says the volunteers then set up Christmas trees in various businesses, including Canada Post, Remedy Rx, the banks, and Pet Valu with the ornaments featuring seniors’ information, but no names.

Beavis says the public can then take an ornament off the tree, buy a gift for the associated senior and return both to the business by the deadline of December 5th.

She adds if all goes well all 141 seniors will receive a gift from local Santas this year.
