Espanola Lions Club gives once again assisting North Shore Search & Rescue with its major fundraiser

A partnership between two local Espanola groups has led to a successful fundraiser to help cover some of the annual costs of North Shore Search & Rescue.

Espanola Lions Club spokesperson Grant Lewis says all 5,000 rubber duckies were sold on Canada Day and after a swim down the Spanish River, with over $20, 000 was raised.

The Lions assist the unit in selling the ducks and running the financial aspect of the event as part of the July 1st festivities because the extra help is needed, and much appreciated by the search and rescue members.

Lewis says search and rescue members attended their most recent meeting where the money was turned over to them, with the funds going towards equipment, training, and insurance.

The unit does not receive any other supports except for the monies raised at the local level to maintain their services throughout the year.
