Sault Ste. Marie loss acknowledged by mayor and school board

Five people, including three children, are dead after a shooting in Sault Ste. Marie.

Police say it was a domestic situation that escalated into a shooting rampage at two city homes Tuesday night.

A 41-year-old was found deceased in the first home.

The shooter was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the second home as were three children aged six, seven, and twelve.

Another gunshot victim, a 45-year-old, was taken to hospital.

Sault Ste. Marie Mayor Matthew Shoemaker expressed his sympathies extending the community’s collective condolences and support to the families of the victims.

 Algoma District School Board Education Director Lucia Reece also says the school community mourns the loss of the three students adding counsellors and support staff have been put in place at Boreal French Immersion Public School and Superior Heights.

The investigation continues.
