A North Shore man who spent decades blazing trails in the Blind River area has received national recognition.
Voyageur Trail Association representative Carolynn Reid says Andy Penikett was awarded Trans Canada Trail’s (TCT) Volunteer of the Year award last Thursday.
She says the award was handed out along with a plaque installed on Mississauga First Nation and Blind River’s shared accessible trail loop that was made possible, in part, from a Trans Canada Trail’s grant.
Reid adds she was pleased that her nomination was accepted and that Penikett is receiving the recognition for his work over the last several decades.
Blind River Mayor Sally Hagman, who also attended the ceremony, says she has known him for over 30 years and his love for the nature will go down in the history books.
