Island mosquito tests positive for West Nile Virus

A mosquito on Manitoulin Island has tested positive for the West Nile Virus.

Public Health Sudbury and Districts says it was detected through routine surveillance.
Officials say locally, the virus was last detected in mosquitoes in 2018. They add there have been no confirmed cases of birds, animals or people being infected with the virus and this time of year is typically one of greater risk for contracting it.
To help protect yourself and your family from bites, they say to repair windows and screens, remove standing water from around your home and use insect repellent.
