Manitoulin Secondary School receiving new high-tech machine equipment

Manitoulin Secondary School is the latest in the Rainbow District School Board to receive new high-tech machine equipment from two different supporting sources.

Education director Bruce Bourget says the Canadian Tooling & Machining Association and Ontario Council for Technology Education are providing the funding for it.

He says approximately $80,000 has been allocated for the purchase of a milling machines, two routers and more.

He says the supporters are giving more students and teachers in Rainbow Schools’ access to modern equipment to learn skills and gain competencies that are in high demand, adding another component of the program will provide experiential work placements for high school co-op students, with a focus in the precision metal cutting sector.

He says approximately $80,000 has been allocated for the purchase of a CNC milling machine, two CNC routers and a 3VM Ram Turret milling machine, as well as a tooling package valued at $7,000 each.

Bourget adds the board is currently carrying out preliminary work to prepare for the arrival and installation of the new equipment this fall.
