Horne Lake Memorial Fountain completion expected soon

Elliot Lake council has been told there are some slight delays in getting the revamped Horne Lake Memorial Fountain back up and running.

Bill Goulding, the Acting Director of Public Works told council that this spring, staff recognized that the existing fountain was beyond economic repair.

He says his department has cared for and maintained the system over the years since Sobey’s donation of the fountain, but major components had worn out, so it made sense to replace the entire system.

Goulding says staff ordered the required $20,000 worth of equipment some time ago, but due to delays at custom, some major parts have yet to arrive.

He says due to the delay, the goal of reactivating the fountain on the anniversary date of the Algo Mall collapse, June 23rd could not be met, so the reactivation will take place once the parts arrive.

Goulding adds with the complete overhaul of the fountain, the city can expect at least a decade of service from the new equipment.
