Hughes on cap and trade system

The NDP would like to introduce a cap and trade system if it forms the next federal government.   That’s according to Carol Hughes, who is seeking re-election in Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing. Hughes says this is different from a carbon tax.   When asked if a cap and trade system would force gas prices up and goods affected by transportation, Hughes said we don’t know why gas at the pumps are higher in some places and not in others.  But she says that’s what an Ombudsman could find out as long as we don’t hamstring the office and give it teeth.  Hughes’s NDP seat is being challenged by Andre Robichaud of the Conservatives and from the Liberals, Heather Wilson.
