Just over 25 members and friends of the Espanola Gardeners were treated to fine dining but on a slightly different scale.
Instead of the usual, spokesperson Grant Lewis says they munched on mallow, plantain, sorel, yarrow, clover and various other edible leaves.
He says the taste tests were part of a presentation by Sari Huhtala who is passionate about healthy plant-based foods and the healing powers of plants people commonly think of as weeds.
Lewis adds Sari owns 70 acres on the North Shore in Spanish where she cultivates the natural foods from what she calls her Laughing Forest and also publishes a magazine, Live+Fit, focusing on natural, healthy food production.
