New chair to be elected for Laurentian University

Laurentian University’s Board of Governors will elect a new chair as current Board Chair Jeff Bangs has announced he will step down from the volunteer role at the end of the current term.

According to the release, Bangs joined the board in December of 2021 and became chair leading the institution through the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act process.

Bangs says aside from needing to strike a new balance between his business and volunteer commitments, he adds there are two other reasons; the successful appointment of his partner as the University’s General Counsel, and his personal health.

Bangs explains with his partner sitting on the counsel he does not want a real or perceived conflict of interest and more personally, he has some health issues that he must deal with over the next few months.

The board thanked him for his service and wished him success in dealing with his health issues and future endeavours.

The university is now implementing a process to elect the new chair, which is expected to take place soon.
