Blind River class wins inclusion award

Students at the Blind River School, Ecole St. Joseph, have won an award from Community Living Algoma.

Students in the Grade 5 classroom, taught by Tammy-Lynn Boivin, received an award for their video about inclusivity and diversity in the ‘Together We’re Better’ contest, presented by Community Living Algoma.

As part of Inclusive Education Month, CLA launches their contest in February with elementary and secondary school students encouraged to share examples of how inclusion is evident in their schools. Two Algoma classrooms were selected as this year’s award recipients with Our Lady of Lourdes French Immersion Catholic School in Elliot Lake receiving an award at an assembly as part of Community Living Month in May.

Ecole St Joseph won for their French video called We’re All the Same, which worked within the required school curriculum.

The students each received a certificate of recognition as well as the school recognizing their role in promoting an inclusive school environment and a gift card for a special lunch for the class.
