Heat warning issued for our area

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the Elliot Lake area, with a two-day heat event beginning Thursday.

The weather agency says daytime high temperatures are expected to be near 30 degrees Celsius today through Friday.

Overnight temperatures Thursday night are expected to be in the high teens, providing little relief from the heat.

Officials say cooler temperatures return on Saturday.

The weather agency says the risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Tips include drinking plenty of water, even before you feel thirsty, staying in a cool place and never leaving people or pets inside a parked vehicle.
