Grand Council Chief concerned over voting requirements

On the federal election front, the Grand Council Chief says the Harper government is making it tough for First Nation people to vote.  Pat Madahbee says under new legislation, voters need government-issued ID that have a photo and address.  Madahbee says the legislation excludes First Nation status cards.  People without photo ID need two pieces of identification and one of them has to show where you live.  Madahbee says the problem with this is many homes on reserves don’t have street addresses.  However Elections Canada says local First Nations can issue letters proving who a person is so they can vote.  Madahbee wants band offices to get these letters out and hopes the extra work doesn’t turn people off from voting.
