Employment, infrastructure and the environment are big challenges for Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing. That’s according to Carol Hughes, the NDP incumbent running for re-election. Hughes says people have affordability issues but adds if we can build a stronger economy, that generates a double benefit. She says good jobs shore up household budgets and that eases the affordability issue. Hughes is a strong believer in manufacturing in the north. It hasn’t happened yet, but Hughes says Pele Mountain in Elliot Lake is trying to go that route by creating a mine coupled with a manufacturing base.
