Social media harassing messages lead to charges

An Elliot Lake resident is facing charges laid by East Algoma Ontario Provincial police following an investigation into unwanted messages and threats on social media.

Constable Phil Young says a complainant reported receiving numerous social media messages both directly and indirectly back in February.

He adds the messages were also being sent online to another family member.

Young says after police obtained screenshots of the messages an arrest warrant was issued for the accused.

The 58-year-old Elliot Lake man was charged with criminal harassment and uttering death threats and is set to appear in Elliot Lake court on May 1st.
