Police seeking help in shooting death – 25-year-old has died – 18-year-old arrested

Manitoulin OPP is looking for any information anyone has about a shooting death that took place on Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory early this morning.

Constable John Hill says an arrest has been made in connection to a shooting death, which occurred Sunday morning just before 1:40 am, with the assistance of OPP, local Tribal Police and the assistance of the Sagamok Anishinabek Police Service.

He says upon arrival, police learned that one person had been shot, that the suspect had fled the scene and a shelter in place order was temporarily initiated until the arrest was made.

Hill says Brandon Trudeau Pheasant, 25 years-of-age from Wikwemikong Unceded Territory, has died as a result of his injuries.

He says an 18-year-old from M’Chigeeng First Nation was arrested and charged with first degree murder.

Hill adds the OPP is appealing to anyone who may have observed suspicious activity related to this case to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit information online at ontariocrimestoppers.ca where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2000.
