Espanola/North Shore Snowarama breaks records

It was a year to break records for the 2023 Espanola/North Shore Snowarama for Easter Seals.

Carmen Bazinet, the regional Easter Seals coordinator says 26 people gathered pledges to raise a record-breaking $19,678.33.

She says the highest fundraiser award goes to Leo Deveau of Elliot Lake who raised $10,62, the highest amount ever raised by one single individual in the 49 years of Snowarama.

Bazinet adds this year’s Easter Seals Ambassador, Ryan Vlaad was the second-highest fundraiser bringing in $1,455.

And, she says the youngest, 12-year-old Kaleb Romaniuk of Espanola raised $560 in pledges.

Bazinet says the participants took in the ride from Espanola to Massey and back again capping off their day with the awards dinner at the Eagles Hall in Webbwood.

She extends a thank you to the wider community for one of the most successful events held adding she is looking forward to celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Snowarama next year.

Bazinet also presented Certificates of Appreciation to long-time local volunteers Sue Belanger and Gaetanne Sokoloski for their hard work.
